Exosomes are tiny nanovesicles naturally released by MSC (Mesenchymal Stem Cells) that help them communicate with each other by carrying important proteins and other signals for communication. According to an article from Nature Reviews Nephrology, exosomes are showing exciting potential for kidney disease in two key ways.
First, they can act as markers to help diagnose and monitor kidney health without needing invasive procedures.
Second, exosomes from stem cells have been found to help repair kidney damage, reduce harmful inflammation, and prevent scarring. Increasing evidence has established a central role of extracellular vesicles in kidney physiology and pathology. This means exosome-based treatments could offer new hope for people with acute or chronic kidney conditions.
